About the Department
Being the oldest department in the college, Commerce department was established during the year 1972 with a sanctioned strength of 50 students for the B.Com., degree course Post-graduate M.Com., degree course has been started during the year 1994 – 95 with a sanctioned strength of 20 students. As per Government order in Shift -II B.Com course was introduced with a sanctioned strength of 50 students in the year 2006 – 2007. The sanctioned strength of teaching faculty is 10. At present, the Department has 6 eligible highly qualified competent faculties in Shift- I and 4 Guest lecturers in Shift II. Since 2011 the University of Madras recognized the department as research department to conduct Part-time Ph.D Research Programme. From the academic year 2013-14 the department is recognized to conduct Full-time M.Phil., and Ph.D. Research Programme by the University of Madras.

To be the best at serving society by creating Commerce knowledge and educating students for dynamic careers with leading to high quality research contribution to the commerce related fields.
Mission
To impart effective, supportive, accessible and affordable knowledge, skills and education in Commerce and Management to empower our down trodden and mostly rural background students to respond to the challenges in the corporate world in an academic environment. To promote research culture among the students and enabling them to compete with the members of a global society.
