The Department of Corporate Secretaryship was established in 1980 with a sanctioned strength of eight faculty members. Owing to its exceptional credibility and excellence in teaching, the government sanctioned postgraduate programmes in 2012 with an additional strength of four faculty members. At present, the department functions in both first and second shifts.
Following the introduction of co-education, the college has gained greater popularity, and society has developed a renewed appreciation for the institution’s contribution to women’s empowerment through inclusive education. Currently, more than 350 students are pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the department.
The department is distinctive in maintaining discipline and actively organizing campus cleanliness initiatives. It also encourages student participation in National Cadet Corps (NCC) activities and various sports events. Notably, one of our Corporate Secretaryship students was selected for the prestigious Republic Day Parade held in New Delhi, marking a proud moment for the college.
The department is enriched with highly qualified and talented faculty members, many of whom have cleared NET and hold doctoral degrees. As the Head of the Department, it is indeed a proud moment to acknowledge their remarkable contributions. The co-educational environment has fostered a progressive culture, encouraging psychological maturity, better understanding, and disciplined behavior among students.
The faculty members who have been awarded doctorates continue to contribute significantly to the academic and intellectual development of students. Their dedication undoubtedly strengthens the department and empowers students to gain deeper insights into their academic pursuits and future careers.
The University of Madras has granted equivalence to both Corporate Secretaryship and Commerce programs. This initiative serves as a significant boost for future generations who aspire to pursue Corporate Secretaryship. Students who choose this course have excellent opportunities to further their studies in professional programs such as Chartered Accountancy (CA), MBA, ICWA (Cost and Management Accounting), and other related fields.
The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in English medium. Students who have studied Accountancy, Commerce, and Mathematics in their 12th standard are eligible to enroll in this program. As the course is highly corporate-oriented, students who successfully complete it can look forward to promising careers in the corporate world, with opportunities for advancement to positions such as managers, finance managers, and corporate-level executives.

MONIKA R, IST YEAR B. Com (Corporate Secretaryship) student, is an extraordinary player in Kho- Kho and has brought laurels to the department by winning the inter-department competition held in the college in 2026. She is not only good at sports, but she is also one of the best cadets in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) women’s wing. She has earned a renowned place by participating in important parades and serving as part of the guard of honour. She is highly enthusiastic and has been keenly recognized by NCC Officer Captain Bhaskar. She is soon expected to move to the next level of promotion in the NCC wing. Her dream of becoming an army officer will be strongly supported by NCC Officer Captain Baskar.
HINA -IST YEAR B. Com student with extraordinary talent in singing, impressed a large gathering during the singing competition held in 2026 at Government Arts College, Nandanam. She won first prize and brought credit to the Department of Corporate Secretaryship.
The first-year ug and first-year PG students of Corporate Secretaryship, with a keen interest in preserving the environment, created a garden for the college. They donated 53 plants, which are now being maintained by the college. This initiative stands as a good example of the institution’s commitment to a greener future, with essential shrubs and flowering plants enhancing the campus.
Academic and research commitment undoubtedly promotes the growth and development of the department. In this regard, Dr.P. Petchiappan, Dr. Hemalatha Dr. N. Jayaseelan, and Dr. A. Umapathy four guest lecturers—have been awarded their doctoral degrees this year. This achievement is a great laurel for the department and significantly enhances its academic value, paving the way for more extraordinary teaching and scholarly contributions in the future.
The undergraduate students of this college have made a highly ambitious decision to pursue higher education. A majority of them have enrolled in M. Com (Corporate) and are consistently proving their Caliber by securing high percentages of marks. The following students, in particular, have made significant contributions to the growth and reputation of the department.
